Come Holy Ghost, Creator come,
From Thy bright heavenly throne!
Come take possession of our souls,

The Living Spring, the Living Fire,
Sweet Unction, and True Love!

Thou who art seven-fold in Thy grace,
Finger of God's right Hand,
His promise, teaching little ones,
To speak and understand!

O guide our minds with Thy blest light,
With love our hearts inflame,
And with Thy strength which ne'er decays,
Confirm our mortal frame.

Far from us drive our hellish foe,

PRAYER TO THE HOLY GHOST

Come, Holy Ghost, fill the hearts of Thy faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Thy love.

V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created;
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray.

O God who didst instruct the hearts of Thy faithful by the light of the Holy Ghost, grant that, by the same Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

OTHER PRAYERS TO THE HOLY GHOST

O Holy Spirit, sweet Guest of my soul, abide in me and grant that I may ever abide in Thee.

Incline, O most gracious Lord, your ears of mercy to our prayers, and enlighten our hearts by the grace of the Holy Ghost, so that we may worthily celebrate your mysteries and love you with an everlasting love.

O God, before whom every heart lies open and to whom every desire speaks and from whom no secret lies hid, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the pouring forth of your Holy Ghost, so that we may be worthy to love you perfectly and worthily to praise you.

Inflame, O Lord, our reins and our hearts with the fire of your Holy Ghost, so that we may serve you with a chaste mind and please you with a clean heart.

We beseech you, O Lord, that the Comforter, who proceeds from you, may enlighten our minds, and lead us, as your Son has promised, unto all truth.

May the power of your Holy Ghost, we beseech you, O Lord, be present unto us, mercifully to cleanse our hearts and to defend them from all harm.

O God, who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of your Holy Ghost, grant that in the same spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolation.

Cleanse, we beseech you, O Lord, our consciences by your visitation, so that when our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, shall come he may find in us a dwelling prepared for him; who lives and rules with you in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY GHOST

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who before ascending into Heaven didst promise to send the Holy Ghost to finish Thy work in the souls of Thine Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me, that He may perfect in my soul the work of Thy grace and Thy love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom, that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal; the Spirit of Understanding, to enlighten my mind with the light of Thy divine truth; the Spirit of Counsel, that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining Heaven; the Spirit of Fortitude, that I may bear my cross with Thee and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation; the Spirit of Knowledge, that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints; the Spirit of Piety, that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable; the Spirit of Fear, that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, Dear Lord, with the sign of Thy true disciples, and animate me in all things with Thy Spirit. Amen.

A NOVENA PRAYER TO THE HOLY GHOST FOR A SPECIAL FAVOUR

O Holy Ghost, thou art the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity! Thou art the Spirit of truth, love and holiness, proceeding from the Father and the Son, and equal to Them in all things! I adore Thee and love Thee with all my heart. Teach me to know and to seek God, by whom and for whom I was created. Fill my heart with a holy fear and a great love of Him. Give me compunction and patience, and do not let me fall into sin.

Increase in me faith, hope and charity, and bring forth in me all the virtues proper to my state of life. Help me to grow in the four Cardinal Virtues, Thy seven Gifts and Thy twelve Fruits.

Make me a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, an obedient child of the Church, and a help to my neighbour. Give me the grace to keep the Commandments and to receive the Sacraments worthily. Raise me to holiness in the state of life to which Thou hast called me, and lead me through a happy death to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Grant me also, O Holy Ghost, Giver of all good gifts, the special favour for which I ask (name it), if it be for Thy honour and glory and for my well-being.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

A DAILY CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY GHOST

Most Holy Ghost, receive the consecration that I make of my entire being. From this moment on, come into every area of my life and into each of my actions. Thou art my Light, my Guide, my Strength, and the sole desire of my heart. I abandon myself without reserve to Thy divine action, and I desire to be ever docile to Thine inspirations. O Holy Ghost, transform me, with and through Mary, into another Christ Jesus, for the glory of the Father and the salvation of the world. Amen.

CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY GHOST

O Holy Ghost, divine Spirit of light and love, I consecrate to Thee my understanding, my heart and my will, my whole being, for time and eternity. AN ACT OF OBLATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

On my knees before the great cloud of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself body and soul to Thee, eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Thy purity, the unerring keenness of Thy justice and the might of Thy love. Thou art the strength and light of my soul. In Thee I live and move and have my being. I desire never to grieve Thee by unfaithfulness to grace, and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against Thee. Make me faithful in every thought, and grant that I may always listen to Thy voice, watch for Thy light, and follow Thy gracious inspirations. I cling to Thee and give myself to Thee, and I ask Thee by Thy compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced feet of Jesus, looking at His five Wounds, trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened side and stricken Heart, I implore Thee, adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, so to keep me in Thy grace that I may never sin against Thee with the sin which Thou wilt not forgive. Grant to me the grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and of the Son, to say to Thee always and everywhere, "Speak, Lord, for Thy servant hears." Amen.
